Assam is one of the seven sisters (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura) of the North East Indian states blessed with the mighty river Bhramaputra. The city of Guwahati, also known as Pragjyotishpur in ancient times of Mahabharata, is not only a gateway to North East India but also a cultural and commercial hub for the seven sister states. Shillong the capital of Meghalaya, a beautiful hill station known as “Scotland of the East” is just about 70kms from Burnihat. The richness of the region, in terms of landscape, flora, fauna, culture and traditions and heritage is vast and unique. CASFOS Burnihat is located in a cradle of richly endowed landscape where renowned protected areas such as Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary, Kaziranga National Park, Nameri National Park, Manas National Park or unique places such as Cherapunji-Mawsynram, just to name a few, are all located within a radius of about 200kms.
The Academy is situated about 21 kms away from Guwahati Railway Station and 40 Kms away from Guwahati Airport. The Academy is spread over an area of about 24 hectares which is spread on either side of the NH 40. The Assam side land measuring about 19 hectares falls in Kamrup district which is located 26004’22.94” N to 26003’ 47.47” N latitudes and 91052’20.54”E to 91052’36.42”E longitudes.
There is another plot of about 5 hectares on the Meghalaya side falling under Ribhoi district and is located 26004’19.18”N to 26004’07.91”N latitudes and 91052’15.39”E to 91052’26.14” E longitudes. The main administrative building of the Academy, hostels and Type 1 quarters are located on the Assam side, and the residential campus comprising of Type 3, 4, 5 and 6 quarters are on the Meghalaya side.
