College Complex:

The training classes are held in the main building comprising of an administrative unit, faculty rooms, four lecture halls, library, one seminar room, computer lab, multipurpose practical lab, exam hall, reprographic unit an a gymnasium.

Accomodation:

 

The college has two hostels for the accommodation of the trainees. These are North and South Hostel and have the capacity of 65 and 130 rooms respectively to provide comfortable lodging to the OT’s. The hostel(particularly the North Hostel) are equipped with television, lounge, intercom, mess and pay phone facility.

It is compulsory for all the trainees to stay in the hostel. OT’s are not allowed to keep their families in the hostel. At present the South hostel is being used to accommodate the in-service SFS trainees and also has got almost all the facilities that the North Hostel is having.

Officer’s Mess

 

The officers’ mess s run by the trainees and is situated in the hostel premises. The mess committee is elected and it functions under the overall guidance of Vice President Mess, who is a faculty member nominated by the Principal, SFS College. Every OT becomes regular member of the mess. The mess provides a forum for formal and informal interactions during dinners and get together.

LECTURE HALL

 

There are four fully furnished lecture theatres of which two have capacity of 80 each and the remaining two have a capacity of 20 each. All Lecture Theatres are fitted with latest teaching aids, like OHP, Projection Systems etc.

CONFERENCE HALL

 

The college has a well equipped and specious air-conditioned Conference Hall which is utilized for in-service courses and seminars. It has a seating capacity of 50. The facilities available in the Hall are of international standard.

COMPUTER LAB

 

Excellent computer facilities to impart training in the latest Operating System & Application Software include separate DOS-WINDOW Lab and a UNIX Lab, (fitted with LCD Projectors) each equipped to provide ‘hands-on’ experience to 25 individuals at a time. Internet connectivity through VSNL is also available. The trainees are free to use the computer lab at any time outside the lecture hours.

The Computer lab has a rich inventory of necessary hardware and softwares. Hardware include printers, scanners, servers, CD writers, video projection systems etc.

LIBRARY

 

The College library boasts as one of the oldest forest libraries in the country. Its collection include rich and very old books, periodicals and reports of pre independence era. Besides, this library has a vast resource material on various fields of forestry, allied subjects and also non forestry disciplines. These include books, bound volumes, journals, maps, reports, slides, audio video CD’s , state wise material, compendium, encyclopedia.

The library subscribes to 4 journals, 10 magazines, 5 news letters and 5 daily news papers. Needless to mention, regular purchases of latest books on varied subjects form forestry sector as well as on other allied subjects is never compromised.

The following services are available in the college library:

  • Current awareness through periodicals

 

While the trainees use the library resources to supplement and further enrich the learning form the classroom lectures, the resources are also effectively utilized by our faculty to prepare courseware for the trainees.

The Library of the college has a fairly good collection of books, journals and magazines on Forestry and related subject areas as well as on miscellaneous topics of interest. There are about 8000 books. National and international magazines, journals and newspapers etc. are regularly subscribed.

SPORTS FACILITIES

 

Forest Officers, irrespective of the rank and responsibilities are required to tour extensively, often in remote areas where means of communication are normally not available. They are required to trek long distances in difficult terrains to supervise forestry activities in the filed. This also acts as a big source of motivation for the subordinate staff. This aspect of career is due important during this training. Hence physical fitness, considering it as a pre requisite, adequate stress is given in sports and games activities and a love for the same. The college gives considerable emphasis on physical fitness through Physical Training (PT), sports, swimming etc

The college has sprawling ground for outdoor sports and games. There are facilities for lawn Tennis, Badminton, Basketball, Volley-Ball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Table Tennis and board games. The college has a modern gymnasium with equipment for weight training and other exercises.

Early morning PT and evening outdoor games are compulsory for all OTs’ during week days while at head quarters. During the compulsory games period in the afternoon, OTs play football, hockey, volleyball & badminton depending on the schedule. Besides compulsory games period, the college also offers other games such as chess, weightlifting, athletics etc.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

 

The College provides a platform for the SFS Officers’ Association to organizes culture activities such as Essay Competition, Painting, Photography, Debates, Cultural programmes, Sports Meet etc. The trainees are encouraged to undertake trekking, rafting, mountain climbing and similar other outdoor activities.

THE COLLEGE SPIRIT

 

The fundamental spirit at this college is to impart training to new and old generations of forest Officers with a view to developing and enlarging their concepts of forests and environment, to encourage them to understand how trees can serve humanity. The collage promotes commitment to sincerity and honesty in public service and to uphold values of integrity, earnestness and willingness to serve as agents of change.
